A customer named Mary O.  took the Moroccan Tile Quilt  with Maureen

and with Maureen's guidance, changed her colors and then proceeded to another similar wall hanging from the series.  Spectacular.

All stitched on her Pacesetter 6000...ALL..including the very beautifully done self taught stitch-in-the-ditch "echo-type" quilting.  WOW.

I wonder how many of us read this article in the

Sunday Edition of the New York Times, July 9, 2007:

What Would Betsy Ross Think?

Clemencia Ramos, a retired factory worker in Coram, N.Y., also likes to embroider items for her family. But she has turned her hobby into a small quilting and embroidery business. Last year, Mrs. Ramos bought a combination sewing-embroidery machine (a Brother Innov-ís 4000D, $7,999); she now uses it to fill 30 to 50 embroidery orders a month.

One of her most popular orders is for customized embroidery on fleece baby blankets. On each blanket, she embroiders an angel, a cradle, a border and the child’s name, weight and birth date. It takes about two hours, and she charges about $40 for the embroidery work. She also monograms sets of towels. Each monogram is created with four-inch letters entwined with flowers or other ornaments (about $55 a set).

Mrs. Ramos bought her machine at 112 Sewing Supplies in Patchogue, N.Y., where she also teaches from time to time. Samples of her work are scattered throughout the store. She also makes embroidered items and donates them to charities that in turn auction or raffle them to raise money for abused children.

Mrs. Ramos waited for years before she bought her Innov-ís machine. Christine Scorza, co-owner of 112 Sewing, said that such postponement was typical. “A lot of my customers work hard, all their lives ” she said. “Then finally when they are retired, they want to treat themselves to a beautiful machine that can do it all.”

The automatic embroidery feature, which is new to many sewers, makes the machines particularly appealing, Mrs. Scorza said. It extends the range of their sewing, allowing them to take up quilting, or to decorate objects around their homes, from kitchen curtains to tooth-fairy pillows. Most of her customers are women, but there are some men, too, particularly in quilting.

The Innov-ís bought by Mrs. Ramos comes with built-in embroidery designs of Walt Disney characters like Mickey Mouse. “The Disney figures are extremely popular,” Mrs. Scorza said. “People can stitch Mickey and Winnie the Pooh on their granddaughter’s backpack or clothing.”

Some consumers who buy sophisticated machines use them to create digitized embroidery patterns that they sell on the Internet.

Do we all remember our Jillian??

Like many sewers, Jillian Lewis started sewing at a young age. When she was just sixteen years old, Jillian's parents purchased her first Brother Sewing Machine,  Model Pacesetter 2300, at 112 Sewing Supplies, Inc. in Patchogue, NY.   www.112sewing.com Her parents chose 112 Sewing because they knew we would open the box and teach Jillian how to operate her machine, how to thread the bobbin and the top, how to use the feet and accessories that come with the machine and how to keep it clean which helped the machine keep running for over 10 years when she finally had it professionally cleaned.  The machine needed no replacement parts and no repair, just a thorough dusting and brushing to rid the interior of lint from thread and fabric dust. Jillian first learned to sew on her Brother Pacesetter 2300.

In February, 2009, Jillian Lewis debuted her first fashion show in New York City, and the owner of 112 Sewing Supplies, Christine Scorza, Pres. was very generously invited to the wonderful event. Jillian's Fall '09 collection featured an assortment of fall and winter womenswear with tailored details and fitted silhouettes. Lewis's undeniable style and eye for fabric made her a favorite on the 4th season of Bravo's Project Runway, but now she is making it on her own, still with her Brother Pacesetter 2300 by her side.

112 Sewing Supplies considers Jillian to be our true Cinderella story of a young woman with a dream.  Jillian is a very poised, intelligent, focused, talented designer and we are extremely proud of all of her accomplishments.  Likewise, many of our customers, young and old, admire her and wish her all the success she desires.

Behind the scenes of Lewis's Fall '09 show was a team of sewers, all on Brother machines. "We are happy to continue to support Jillian Lewis in the realization of her dreams as a fashion designer and are pleased that she enjoys working with our products. It is very impressive to see the garments made on our machines in her Spring and Fall/Winter lines and we are happy to be a part of her first fashion show," said Dean F. Shulman, senior vice president of Brother International Corporation and head of the company's home appliance division.

I recieved an email from Christine Scorza of www.112sewing.com. She wanted to share a quilt her customer created… the VERY FIRST quilt this woman had ever created!

Chris tells us,

Chris tells us:

Dear Sarah,
One of our customers, Maura, had never quilted and wanted to create something on her own. So, my quilting teacher, Maureen, a devout EQ user, suggested that she might enjoy your EQ program. Well, look what she did the first time she used her EQ….fantastic!!!

Of course, Maura owns the Beautiful NV1500D Brother Sewing and Embroidery Machine and Pe Design.  That, is how she was able to add the Sunflower group to her Pillow Shams! Thank you for posting this on your Blog...Chris from 112 Sewing.

We are all so impressed, Maura! Wonderful job and thank you for sharing with us.
